Featured Schools
ELF favors free/democratic schools, especially Sudbury schools, schools where students are entirely free to individually pursue their interests and regulate their learning in a diverse-aged, democratic community. Arizona's Kino School and IDEA School are closely related to free schools and are featured here along with other student-centered alternatives.
"Kino’s mission is to provide a school where students are given both the responsibility and the freedom that lie at the heart of being a citizen in a democratic society: a school where learning, creativity, respect for others, and community thrive and where students of all abilities succeed."

"At the IDEA School, students are engaged in their learning and love it. The IDEA School facilitates our students’ exploration of the real world.
We encouraged students to let their passions, insights and questions lead them in unique directions, and provide real-world tools for them to create, design, build, and explore." |
"Tucson Waldorf School provides age-appropriate content that nourishes the healthy growth of the child. Mathematics, languages, literature & history, science & geography, music, handwork, gardening, and woodwork are subjects students learn about through an experiential approach." |
"At Quality Interactive Private School we pride ourselves on personalized education. We believe each of our students is an individual, so why not be taught that way? With our low student to teacher ratio and commitment to small group learning we offer this to each and everyone of our students." |
